Shelter Volunteering

Getting Started

If you are interested in becoming a long-term volunteer, attend a group volunteer orientation to learn about Heartland Humane Society and the opportunities available. If you are interested in short-term projects or school-required hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@heartlandhumane.org.

Upcoming orientation dates will be posted here along with our Events Calendar.

You must register for orientation, as space is limited. Please choose one date and register below:

Volunteers with Special Needs

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer but may require special consideration to find opportunities that suit your ability you can meet directly with the Volunteer Coordinator to arrange accommodation. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@heartlandhumane.org.

Youth Volunteers

Youth volunteering is open to all ages.  Like adult volunteers, youth volunteers age 8 and up must attend a group orientation (see above).

Youth age 15 and under are required to be supervised by an adult, so we encourage parents/guardians to be involved with their child(ren)’s volunteering service. Youth 16 years of age and older are not required to be supervised while volunteering.

Kindness Kids’ Club is an opportunity for youth to volunteer with their peers after school, with shelter supervision provided. Visit our Kindness Kids’ Club page for more information.
